Matthew 5

1 And seeing the multitudes, He went up into a mountain: and when He was set, His disciples came unto Him:

2 And He opened His mouth, and taught them, saying,

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

These weak in spirit = not strong enough themselves, will be blessed in the kingdom of heaven. It's because of their faith in God. It's a matter of humility.

4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

God sees their hearts cry out and He will comfort those that believe. Those that don't, it will just take a lot more time. In the end of the age there won't be any mourning. Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

"Meek" Greek word "praus" = humble. You're not a doormat when people attack you, you do your best, God does the rest. Your strength and faith is in The Lord when times are tough.

6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

If you desire for what is right, you study to find The Truth = God's Word and fight for it. God will open your eyes if you truly want it.

7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Do you think of others before yourself? Then you are merciful

8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

This is the intellect of your soul or mind. You understand what evil is and want no part of it. You feed on The Word EVERYDAY, not the world.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Peacemakers look for ways to stop the violence and if war is called for, these are the ones that make it happen for those debaters of sugar coat Christianity.  Psalm 144:1 Blessed be the Lord my strength, Which teacheth my hands to war, And my fingers to fight:  Ecclesiastes 3:8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

They're going to hate everything you stand for when you stand for Christ. They're going to twist things and try to bring you down, but they won't succeed if you are a real Christian.  John 15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated Me before it hated you.

11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for My sake.

Bring it! Christians are can do people of all mighty God

12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

What is this? When they come against you, "Rejoice"? Yes! Be glad in your heart and give thanks to God, your awake to The Truth and "reward" is yours. Come on now! No poor me babes in Christ, REJOICE! It's a GREAT day in The Lord

13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

We have enough sugar coated Christians in the world today. Be that bold, salt that stings the wounds of evil. Speak up, fight the good fight!

14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

When "ye are the light" = followers of Christ, people see that light and know what direction they should go, so they too can have that same light. SHINE

15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Show that light to all around you. Never hide the fact you're a Christian. REAL Christians are EVERYDAY Christians.

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

You're the example of what a Christian should be. Christian = Christ like   Don't let the world tell you what that is. Only The Word of God can tell you the direction a Christian is to walk.

17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Christ Jesus didn't change the law or abolish it. He made it complete. The law is our school master, showing us the correct paths to take in an evil world.

18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Not one letter or period will be thrown out of The Truth.

19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Going against any of the laws or teaching that it's alright to do so, will bring you to be seen in heaven as one that wasn't worthy to even speak of it.

20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

If you're going to teach what is of God, you had better do what is of God. These scribes and Pharisees are in fact kenites and not those of the Levitical priesthood. These scribes were in charge when the House of Judah came out of captivity in Babylon. Matthew 23:2-3  2 Saying The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:  3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

21 Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:

This should read, "Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shall do no murder,"= criminal homicide = The criminal intent to take one's life. There is a great difference. "And whosoever shall commit criminal homicide murder shall be in danger of the judgment." Our laws are based on God's Word.  You have common sense don't you? God wouldn't have you stand there when someone comes to murder you. You have a right to defend yourself. We have the power to take evil out and should use it more today than we do. Remember earlier, for those debaters of sugar coated Christianity;  Psalm 144:1 Blessed be the Lord my strength which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:  Ecclesiastes 3:8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Greek # 5406, "Phoneus, fon-yooce' , A murderer, (always a criminal act [at least initial] homicide, 5407 is the term for a public bandit, 5406 is term for murderer."

22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

"Without a cause" is key here. "Raca" is showing disgust with someone. "Fool" Greek - "moros", known as a wicked person, lacking spiritual knowledge and moral values. Always judge righteously   John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;

You must go to God after doing something wrong to another.

24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

Go back to the one you have wrong, asking forgiveness of them, then To God with a repenting heart.

25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

Use common sense and out think the adversary, "agree" is to be well minded. Know who your dealing with.

26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

The paying of the "uttermost farthing" = sounding of the 7th trump = the return of Christ. Don't fall for satans tricks! Be well minded of the tricks and move on.

27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

Don't you know, this holds true today, just as it did in the beginning?  Exodus 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery. This also goes with your spiritual walk with Christ. Don't go whoring after another way. Christ is our ONLY ONE

28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

"Looketh" = to gaze with impure desire, an action of immorality to the looking, to lust.

29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

If you have one in the church that just won't change their ways, get rid of them or they will corrupt the whole body. If at some time in their lives they decide to make a change, they know Who to go to.

30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

If there is more than one, a group causing troubles in the church, get rid of them or they will cause the whole church to fall.

31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:

Legally you should have it in writing so there won't be any disputes later. Divorce isn't a sin as many teach in churches today.

32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

Spiritual fornication, or physical adultery, is sin.

33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:

Keep your word when you tell someone you're going to do something.

34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:

Don't use The Lords name for an oath to anyone.

35 Nor by the earth; for it is His footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.

God created everything = His footstool, and upon His return, He returns with His city Jerusalem.

36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

The facts are, some things are out of our control. God has made things a certain way and His way is how it should be.

37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

As a Christian, if you have to go beyond a yes or no answer to something, they won't accept it away. We don't need to explain ourselves to anyone. This is why I don't waste my time with debaters. The Truth speaks volumes for its self. If they reject it, they're the ones that must answer for it. We are to plant and pray That's it!

38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

This can be found in, Exodus 21:24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,  Were going into a new thought here, one of revenge.

39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

This is of course talking about retaliation. If someone doesn't like something you said or did and they punch you, forgive them. Don't lose your temper. This is in an action / reaction relation. If someone comes looking for a fight for no reason, it's best to walk away if possible, but some just need to be taught a lesson or be taken out all together. Christians aren't door mats! Romans 12:18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Did you catch that? "IF IT BE POSSIBLE"

40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.

If they sue you for your coat, give them your shirt also. God will always supply our needs, not humans. Everything else are just wants.

41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.

If someone is in need of your help with something, give them more than they ask of you. Go that extra mile.

42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

If they're in need, give or if they need to borrow for a while, give. Matthew 6:21  For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

This "neighbour" is the same as in verse 22, they're your brother or sister in The Lord. They believe in Christ Jesus. The "enemy" = non believers.

44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Do you know the best way to love these "enemies" = those that aren't Christians? You feed them Gods Word and pray they take it and grow. We can't force it on them. We plant and walk away. Never debate, just leave them thinking. If they have any questions, they know where to go and Who to turn to.

45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Christians have each day, just as those that reject God have a choice each day. Each second could be your last one, so choose wisely.

46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

Give everyone the same love that you would those within your family.

47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Show the same love our Father has shown us. Give of yourself to all in need. If they take without asking, give them more. Your faith isn't in humans, but God. Not one person should have to earn your love, grace = unmerited favor and it's up to you to show the same grace that is shown to us. This is in no means saying to be a door mat, use common sense!
