Matthew 4

1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

Real Christians are Christ like. Right after His baptism, Christ would have satan try to tempt Him. He wouldn't be of course, nor should we.

2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He was afterward an hungred.

Christ had been put through many temptations these 40 days and nights and while hunger set in, He still overcame the lies of the devil. Who do you listen to with a full stomach?

3 And when the tempter came to Him, he said, If Thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

satan steps up his attack when he thinks Christ is at His weakest.

4 But He answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

So many throw out the parts they don't want to follow when it comes to God's Word. What Christ says is by "every word" we shall live.

5 Then the devil taketh Him up into the holy city, and setteth Him on a pinnacle of the temple,

They're both in Jerusalem. satan wants to be worshiped here and will be very soon by many people believing he is Christ, come to take them. Sadly, these have already been taken = deceived. 2 Thessalonians 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

6 And saith unto Him, If Thou be the Son of God, cast Thyself down: for it is written, He shall give His angels charge concerning Thee: and in their hands they shall bear Thee up, lest at any time Thou dash Thy foot against a stone.

That's satan for ya. Just like many today. They twist God's Word and or take it way out of context. The punk is almost quoting Psalm 91:11-12   11 For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways12 They shall bear thee up in their hand, Lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.  Did you see what he left out? "In all thy ways." A "way" is a path, or a course that you set for yourself. Only in obedience to God and His Word, will you have protection. So many have put sugar in The Words place, instead of keeping The Salt of it.

7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

Christ Jesus is keeping it simple and to the point for this evil one. Deuteronomy 6:15-19  15 (For the Lord thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the Lord thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth. 16 Ye shall not tempt the Lord your God, as ye tempted Him in Massah. 17 Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and His testimonies, and His statutes, which He hath commanded thee. 18 And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the Lord: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers. 19 To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the Lord hath spoken.

8 Again, the devil taketh Him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth Him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

This punk just wouldn't see The True Glory. Christ Jesus is right there and satan doesn't want to accept Him, he wants to destroy Him.

9 And saith unto Him, All these things will I give Thee, if Thou wilt fall down and worship me.

satan will promise you the world and if you want it, go for it. With Christ in your heart and mind, you gain peace and life. Free will

10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve.

You serve God in your thoughts and actions, or you're serving satan.

11 Then the devil leaveth Him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto Him.

Christ Jesus had been without food for 40 days and night. These angles saw to it He would now be fed. Not with words, but food.

12 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, He departed into Galilee;

13 And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:

14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;

Isaiah 9:1-2  1 Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first He lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.  2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. Christ Jesus would teach all these, just as it was written way before His birth. Light always consumes darkness

16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

Again, Light always consumes darkness

17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

All that want to be a part of The King and His dominion = "Kingdom" will Repent = have a change of heart and mind, then follow The Way to life.

18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

19 And He saith unto them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.

If you "follow" Christ today, it's also your duty as a Christian to be "fishers of men" = fishers of human souls for Christ.

20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed Him.

Peter and Andrew got up without a second thought and followed Him.

21 And going on from thence, He saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and He called them.

22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed Him.

And these two also without a second thought, followed Him.

23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

24 And His fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto Him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and He healed them.

Only through Christ can we be healed. He gives us peace of mind in this evil world and He heals our body's from its sickness. Both spiritually and physically.

25 And there followed Him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.
