John 6
1 After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias.
2 And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased.
3 And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.
They're sitting high on a hill side setting, it's liken to an amphitheater.
4 And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh.
5 When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?
With well over 10,000 people approaching them, Christ ask Philip where to get bread for them all. Philip is from the area, so he'll know where to find some.
6 And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.
Christ knew what was going to happen and what would be said before the fact. This event was for everyone to learn Who He is. An event of witnessing, for you and me.
7 Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.
8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him,
9 There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?
You had better believe, this young man isn't here by coincidence. You can count on it being more than 10,000 people that are going to be fed from five loaves and two fish. Two meaning Union, Witnessing and five meaning Grace or God's Goodness and twelve Governmental Perfection. The bread being His body and the fish being an acrostic for Christ Jesus Son of YHVH.
10 And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
We see 5,000 "men". If that's the case, than we could see their families too; the women and children being with them. We can gather there are well over 10,000 people sitting in the grass ready to hear Christ speak.
11 And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.
From God, to Christ, to the disciples, to you and me; we are fed.
12 When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.
"Gather" ..... "that nothing be lost" - Feed those that you have gathered The Word of God, that not one is lost.
13 Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.
This fragmented barley bread is a poor man's bread. The good is wheat bread. It takes Barley 30 days to ripen and within the same grain family is wheat, both are Poaceae. This bread would be considered "first fruits" where the bread of Christ, His body becomes the first fruits for the body of Christ.
14 Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.
Seeing Christ feed so many with five barley loaves, and two small fishes, the people said this is The Messiah the Torah spoke of. Deuteronomy 18:15-19 15 The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; 16 According to all that thou desiredst of the Lord thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not. 17 And the Lord said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. 18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. 19 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.
15 When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.
His time wasn't yet. He heard their minds. They're wanting to make Him their king. Knowing this, Christ left before the crowd could start their chanting. They're looking on Christ Jesus not as what He would become, The One that came to give The Word and life, but one that has come to help them with their fleshly needs. They want His kingship to help their tummy's. They were just fed and sadly that's all they can think about.
16 And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea,
While Christ Jesus went further up the mountain, His disciples went towards the coast.
17 And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.
18 And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew.
19 So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid.
The disciples are on a ship in the sea of Galilee and a storm is blowing. Fishermen are with them and everyone is afraid, so this must be some wind to cause this kind of fear and seeing Christ walking on the sea enhances their fear.
20 But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.
Life brings tribulations to everyone. Only in Christ will your storms be calmed. We don't have to live in fear, when we are with Him.
21 Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went.
With Christ aboard, lives move in the right direction. No more will you be tossed back and forth.
22 The day following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples were gone away alone;
The same people that were fed the day before are standing there looking for Christ. They had watched the disciples sail off without Christ and the people are looking for Him for more food.
23 (Howbeit there came other boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they did eat bread, after that the Lord had given thanks:)
Other boats came in from Tiberias but no others had left, other than the one with the disciples the day before.
24 When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus.
They're eager to be fed. So much so they piled onto ships and head out for Capernaum.
25 And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?
They're asking Christ how He got there.
26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.
They seek a king to give them food stamps. They could care less about what miracles He shows them, or The Words that He gave them. It's all about the flesh to them.
27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
There is a spiritual food that even today's Christians will not seek. People care more about their flesh than The Word of God. They refuse to look towards Faith.
28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
Something should have clicked when everlasting life was mentioned, but the fleshly thought continues to be in the way of the spiritual.
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
Christ is stating the fact, if they believe in Him, they have pleased God at that instance and they've obtained everlasting life. There's NOTHING you can do, no work you can perform that gives everlasting life, but in order to keep it, you must stay in Him and in His work. To be a REAL Christian you must be Christ like. Without Studying, you'll never know how to TRULY walk His Way. Without Him, you'll fall back into the world.
30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?
A sign? Really!!? They just won't open their ears or eyes to The Truth. They want to see more before they commit to believing in Christ. Over 10,000 people being fed from five barley loaves and two small fishes wasn't enough for them. Matthew 12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: Christ will rise after three days as Jonas was in the whales belly three days. Jonah: 1:17 Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. Christ Jesus is telling these scribes and Pharisees that Jonas would be their only sign.
31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.
It was a miracle from God then and The miracle from God now stands before them. It wasn't a sign then, and His miracles are not a sign for them now. Their eyes are shut and ears closed to Him.
32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
It's ALL from God. Christ is there and they can't see Who He is.
33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
Christ is telling them, He is The Bread God has sent to them from heaven.
34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.
They're continuing to look for that buffet. They refuse to open their eyes, ears or minds. Many churches refuse to see the spiritual meaning of The Word and because of their refusal, they are blind to The Truth.
35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.
After all they've seen and heard, they refuse Him. Same as today. People will jump into believing in anything else but Him. Pick a topic! Even within Christianity, false doctrines and traditions of human behavior takes precedent over The Truth. People refuse to study origins of something and because of that, they bring in false gods into their churches. They want to call it "easter" and have hunts for the children. They refuse all that has been sacrificed in order to fill the seats. They have seen and heard, yet refuse. 2 Tim. 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 2 Tim. 2:25-26 25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
God gave His elect to continue in His Work and by that work will more come to Him. Those who seek Him, will not be cast away in the end. It is up to you!
38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
It is by the will of God, Christ came and it is by the will of God, He's coming again.
39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
Those who choose Christ, will He also be with in the end.
40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
41 The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven.
They hate the things Christ is saying because they haven't the mind set to understand Him, nor do they want to.
42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?
They're trying to demean Christ, and at the same time, show their ignorance of where all souls come from.
43 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.
You better believe Christ hears them and is going to be part of their conversation.
44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
We are given life in this flesh to choose Christ or satan. With satan, you trip and fall and never find peace. With Christ Jesus, you trip and fall and He is there within you to help you up, giving you peace. 1 John 5:11-12 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
In the end, everyone will have heard The Truth and have made their choice. Isaiah 54:13 And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.
46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.
They're One in The same, so everything Christ tells us is of God because He is God.
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
The purpose of our human existence is choice. Truly Truly those that believe in Christ will live beyond what the human mind can comprehend. "everlasting life" has no time frame, because its without an end.
48 I am that bread of life.
49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
Everyone in the past that has eaten the manna sent from heaven are now dead.
50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
Christ is telling them, The Father has sent them Bread, that they may live forever. He is That Bread from Heaven.
51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
As earthly bread gives the nourishment our body needs to continue in a day, Christ Jesus is The nourishment our souls need for eternity. Without Him, you don't live. Matthew 26:26-28 26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
No spiritual ear, no spiritual understanding. In order to understand spiritually, you must erase the fleshly way of thinking. Pray to our Father for that understanding that Only His Spirit can give you.
53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
We call it Communion and it is our show of belief in His sacrifice for us. If you don't believe He died for you and rose again, then you have no life in you. I'm sure since they refuse to understand what has been said, this really twisted them into a knot. Christ IS our Passover. Only in Him, will you Passover this life to the next. Passover is how we are freed from those bonds of sin. The blood of Christ broke those chains, freeing our hearts and minds. 1 Corinthians 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: Study the origins of "easter" and let your church be freed from the deceptions they've trapped themselves in.
54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
"Raise them up" = a new being. If you believe, then eternal life will be yours and in that life is a new body. One that doesn't get sick, nor dies. A incorruptible celestial body. 1 Cor. 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
Spiritual Communion †
57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
As Christ and our Father are One, Spiritually connected , we also that take of Christ are one with them.
58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
Similar to verse 51. Christ tells them when they escaped Egypt, God provided that angels food, that bread from heaven and everyone that ate of it, is now dead, but if they partake of Him, His body = His Bread, BELIEF IN HIM, they will live forever.
59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
Christ is teaching that He is The Bread from heaven that gives eternal life and He is teaching it right in the synagogue. This would be like going into a church that is having an easter egg hunt and telling them Christ is our Passover, not a bunny rabbit. 1 Corinthians 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: "Purge out therefore the old leaven" = get rid of that fleshly way and be new in The Truth which is in Christ.
60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
Those within the synagogues have been fed so much sugar and milk of The Torah, being watered down to nothing, they can't grasp the things Christ says on that meat level of Truth, The Spiritual meaning.
61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
If you won't open your eyes and ears to The Truth, you will hate it. If you understand things within The Word others don't and you tell them about those things, what do they do? They turn on you. Matthew 10:14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
What if you see Christ raised back to The Father with your own eyes, then will you believe?
63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
It's our spirits, our souls, the intellect of your being that returns to The Father. This flesh returns to the element in which it was made from. This planet earth. Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.
Christ knew those who would refuse Him before they even heard Him. We are given free will to chose regardless of that fact. Every soul is given the opportunity to chose. You know when someone hates everything you say and do, but you want to give them The Truth anyway. This way you have given them the opportunity to change. If you keep silent, you withheld the chance, be it very small, but still a chance for them to hear The Truth. It might just come to memory later and they seek Him out.
65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
The elect have a complete understanding of The Word and it Only comes from God. Study and pray He opens it up to you. Psalms 119:25 My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word. Psalms 119:162 I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil.
66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
Since they weren't going to get a buffet, but what was instead offered, they refused and left.
67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
Christ's twelve disciples remain and have no hunger for their tummy's, but a hunger for The Word. They believe in Christ Jesus and the fact He is God, sent by God for them to have The Way to life everlasting. They want more of that bread. John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. John 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?
Christ knew from the beginning what was to be in the end and who was going to be a part of it happening. Christ chose them for the purpose of God's will.
71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.
