Matthew 19
1 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, He departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;
2 And great multitudes followed Him; and He healed them there.
3 The Pharisees also came unto Him, tempting Him, and saying unto Him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
Just as these evil high minded church leaders do, evil will keep trying to temp you. Christ shows us how to deal with them.
4 And He answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that He Which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
Some don't even read or study The Book of Genesis and because of that, they will never understand anything in the new testament. As for these Pharisees, they just don't want to acknowledge The Truth.
5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
Ref. Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
Don't let anyone separate you from your love, this goes physically and spiritually. That evil one is always trying to separate us from one another and from God. Understand though, there are conditions for divorce, and it isn't the unforgivable sin. God even divorced because of the evil. God had a wife in Israel, "the House of Israel" and because of her whoredoms, God divorced Israel, Ref. Hosea
7 They say unto Him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?
These just like many today, like twisting The Truth. Look how many do with God's Word today, saying their evil is ok because of His love for all. Deuteronomy 24:1-2 1 When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house. 2 And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's wife. This of course goes both ways. "Uncleanness", Hebrew word = "ervah", or # 6172 in the Strong's Hebrew = "disgrace and blemish by nudity and shame, it is the cause of fornication or adultery." Their is a reason you CAN divorce rather you believe it or not. Many so called churches look down on others because of any divorce, ignoring the facts or forgiveness of their past.
8 He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.
Christ is letting them know God didn't intend this be. It wasn't part of God's plan, but was because of the sinful nature of humans, and giving into the temptations of satan.
9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
I hope you can see the condition for divorce. So many can't and then want to put you in bondage forgetting the whole reason Christ came. He brought us a lot and within it is Truth, love, repentance and with such, forgiveness.
10 His disciples say unto Him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.
The disciples throw in, it's better to not marry then.
11 But He said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given.
Not everyone will understand what is said when it comes to Gods Word. Some because they would rather listen to humans instead of God.
12 For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.
An eunuch is a man, either by natural or unnatural reasons, can't have children. Christ is telling us that some of these eunuchs are born that way; they're formed that way within their mother's womb. Some were castrated as to not mess with the kings many wife's. The last "The kingdom of heaven's sake" are those that have dedicated themselves to nothing but the service of God.
13 Then were there brought unto Him little children, that He should put His hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.
The disciples are holding the children back from seeking Christ.
14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto Me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
We all must seek The Lord as children, open to Him and His Truth as The Truth. His love as The Only True Love †
15 And He laid His hands on them, and departed thence.
16 And, behold, one came and said unto Him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17 And He said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
It should never be about the way others see us, only how our Father God sees us. God is The Only One truly good. God came in this flesh and is perfect. He has shown us, by following Him and His Word we can have eternal life.
18 He saith unto Him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
I want you to pay attention to this correct translation here of "Thou shalt do no murder" where "murder" is quite different from "kill".
19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
20 The young man saith unto Him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
21 Jesus said unto Him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow Me.
To truly follow God, you must know how to separate yourself from the worldly ways. You can never understand The Word in depth, thinking the way of the flesh.
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
People want the world and their habits, over life everlasting and true peace of mind. Go figure!
23 Then said Jesus unto His disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Those that gather for the flesh instead of the soul will have a very hard time facing God.
24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Think about that, It's impossible!
25 When His disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?
26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
In others words, there is no way for us to get to heaven on our own. Our Father has given us The Way, but it's up to us to accept Him.
27 Then answered Peter and said unto Him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed Thee; what shall we have therefore?
28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of His glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
A new age of time is coming, I pray we that follow these study's and grow in His Word will all be there.
29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
If we love Christ less than our wife, husband or the worldly things, then we won't enter the kingdom of heaven.
30 But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
This is a new thought and should have been verse one for the next chapter. We go there next for a look at a parable getting into the ages of time.
