Luke 4
1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Spirit returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
The Holy Spirit led Christ from the very beginning. He is leading Him into the wilderness to show us more now.
2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.
40 = Trials, Probation and Testings. Christ shows us how to handle the things of this world. If you're paying attention to Him, you can overcome anything.
3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.
The flesh world and satan are always going to be testing you. It wants you to give into it. satan is called prince of Tyre, or stone and he wants to be the bread = christ worshiped by all. You can read of this "prince of Tyre" satan in Ezekiel 28.
4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
Christ gives satan The Word instead of arguing with him. He gives him Deuteronomy 8:3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.
5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
This is of course in another dimension of time. They're both supernatural and able to do these things. Just put it aside if you don't understand this right now.
6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
God gives us free will and satan is always there to tempt Christians. Christ shows us The Way. There is no need for him to tempt those he already has. He has them in his prison and has made it nice and comfortable. The door is left open, but people love the worldly way to much to come out.
7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
satan offers the world, but there isn't nothing but a temporary life in it. Christ brings an everlasting way, satan can't give how much you matter to worship him.
8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
As much as satan wants you to worship him directly, he tries to fool by placing things to take your focus off of God which bring you to him one way or another. Money, drugs, TV, sports, shopping, other religions, etc. God loves us because He created us for His pleasure. Focus in a world of satans distractions can be difficult if you wake up in the morning for your self. Wake up for The Lord and it makes it a blessing all day.
9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:
10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:
Misquoting Scripture is always evils game. Christ didn't fall for it and neither should we. Check out EVERYTHING people say, including me, I make mistakes all the time. satans is almost quoting Psalm 91:11-12 11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. 12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. He's twisting it enough, wanting Christ to jump off the temple.
11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
The change: "to keep thee in all thy ways"; is left out of his quote, then he added: "at any time". Again, Psalm 91:11-12 11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. 12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.
satan left for a little while, but he wasn't finished yet. Christ was still alive and satan wasn't going to have it. That serpent = satan has tried to stop Christ since the garden where he attempted to corrupt Christ bloodline from the beginning. Since that failed he will use his children the kenites to put Christ to death on the cross.
14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.
All the things Christ did, from the very beginning was in and by the Spirit of God.
15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.
16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
He is back home where He grew up and doing what He has been doing His whole life, Teaching! The people where He grew up didn't take to Him the way they did elsewhere. Those that know you the best, refuse you when you feed them Truth as well. We know this was true with Christ because of our study in Matthew 13:54-58 54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? 55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? 56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things? 57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. 58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
Christ starts to read Isaiah 61
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Ref. Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me; because the Lord hath anointed Me to preach good tidings unto the meek [humble]; He hath send Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; [Separate yourself from the worldly ways or you can put yourself in bondage; satans traps!]
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Ref. Isaiah 61:2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that morn; [Rest in The Truth and prepare for that last trump, The trump of God = 7th]
20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
Christ is telling them, He is the complement of Scripture. He is The Messiah †
22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?
Although His Words gave them more than they have ever heard, they just couldn't get over the fact He was a carpenters son.
23 And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country.
They want proof. They had heard of the miracles in Capernaum, now they want them in Nazareth.
24 And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.
His own people where He grew up, just don't believe in Him.
25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;
There were many widows in Israel because of the 3 1/2 year famine in the days of Elijah.
26 But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.
"Sarepta" is smelting place, where impurities are separated from the pure metal. The Truth will separate us from the impurities of the deceptions of satan. Christians are separate of the world.
27 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.
28 And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,
They got mad when Christ preached about Old Testament by the Prophets. Notice, this was those in the church.
29 And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong.
Christ Jesus own town folk wanted Him dead. Seems no matter who's in front of you today, if you give them The Truth of God's Word, they're going to hate you. Very few will accept it in this world today. VERY FEW!
30 But he passing through the midst of them went his way,
He didn't let their evil ways control anything. He was done with them!
31 And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days.
32 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.
When Christ said something, you could see the power in it. He cast out evil and healed by His Words.
33 And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,
34 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.
Demons always know who Christ Jesus is and what He is about.
35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.
This man went into some kind of act before the demon left him.
36 And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.
37 And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.
Christ spoke the Truth and those that hate the Truth will be offended, but those that open their hearts to it, will be happy and blessed by it.
38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.
39 And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.
He just cast out an evil spiritual sickness Ref. verse 35 and now He cast out this physical sickness. She jumped up and started seeing to their needs.
40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
Word got out and He healed them all of their physical sicknesses.
41 And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.
And He just cast out spiritual sicknesses and told them to shut it, the people didn't need to know certain things as of yet.
42 And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them.
After all they had witnessed Him do, they would follow Him, hungry for more.
43 And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.
Christ couldn't stay with them because His work was needed in other communities.
44 And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.
