Mark 2

1 And again He entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that He was in the house.

Their return got around the community and the people moved towards Simon's house.

2 And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and He preached the word unto them.

Immediately there were so many people, not one more could fit in the house. They all came to hear Christ teach.

3 And they come unto Him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.

4 And when they could not come nigh unto Him for the press, they uncovered the roof where He was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.

They couldn't get through the door because of the crowed, so they went to the roof, opened a section and lowered the paralyzed man down to Christ.

5 When Jesus saw their faith, He said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

The four men knew Christ could heal him and the sick man knew he would be healed.

6 But there was certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

Christ said "thy sins be forgiven thee" and this kenite is taking notes. If they knew Gods Word, they wouldn't have a second thought about what He said. They would know who He is.

7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?

8 And immediately when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, He said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?

They're away from everyone else, talking about how bad Christ is and Christ walks up to them knowing what they're talking about.

9 Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?

He is asking which is the most important. It's always best to ask a question with those that refuse The Truth. It makes them think! If you tell someone to get up a walk that didn't before and they don't, does that cause the one speaking to not be found a fake, or is it easier to tell someone their sins are forgiven? The credibility of the person speaking isn't going to be proven not of God in telling someone that. Christ showed He is real!

10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (He saith to the sick of the palsy,)

Christ Jesus shows them and us all The Power He has!

11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.

12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

They have all heard a lot of words, but have never seen anything like this before. You just can't deny The Power of Christ.

13 And He went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto Him, and He taught them.

14 And as He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow Me. And he arose and followed Him.

"Levi, the son of Alphaes" is Matthew. "The receipt of custom" = tax collector.

15 And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed Him.

Matthew and his friends are sitting with Christ and the four disciples for dinner.

16 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw Him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that He eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?

You must go to them if you expect them to hear what you have to say. Use common sense though, you should be able to tell who will be receptive.

17 When Jesus heard it, He saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

satan doesn't have the Christians, he has those that refuse Christ.

18 And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto Him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?

The disciples of Christ were not mourning.

19 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.

We know Christ is that bridegroom and that fasting can't happen until after the crucifixion.

20 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

The crucifixion.

21 No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.

A patch on a old cloth will cause that cloth to shrink up around the patch. Giving some old traditional church The Truth will cause that church to pull all out of shape. Ever tried to teach The Truth to denominational indoctrinated church goers? Then you probably understand this very well.

22 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.

An old bottle will dry out and become dry rot. It's not flexible anymore. Unless a person is ready to renew their mind, they will refuse The Truth. The old bottle is set in their ways. "Bottles" Greek # 779 in Strong's "Askos, as-kos'; a leathern (or skin) bag used as a bottle." A new leather bottle is stretchable or pliable so as it gains pressure because the wine ferments, it's able to handle it. With traditions it is impossible to adjust the new wine, The Truth of God, when they hear it. When you have someone refuse it, move on because there is someone out there waiting to hear it that will accept it.

23 And it came to pass, that He went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and His disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.

24 And the Pharisees said unto Him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?

These Traditionalist can't see the Truth. Many today don't even know when the sabbath is. They want to follow a tradition instead of Christ. Many will try and teach you that you must rest on a certain day. Mainly the 7th day. They will even argue amongst themselves, if this is Friday, Saturday or Sunday. When you rest in Christ, you are in keeping with the Sabbath. This word "sabbath" in Greek goes back to the prime in the Hebrew. When you take the word "sabbath" back to the prime word in the Hebrew: 7673. shabath, shaw-bath'; a prim. root; to repose, i.e. desist from exertion; used in many impl. relations (caus., fig. or spec.):--(cause to, let, make to) cease, celebrate, cause (make) to fail, keep (sabbath), suffer to be lacking, leave, put away (down), (make to) rest, rid, still, take away. So you see here this word "sabbath" in the English when taken all the way back to the prime in the Hebrew means "REST!"  Col 2:16 -17  16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:  17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.  Notice it stated sabbath "DAYS" Why? Because the body is of Christ. Our Resting place is of Christ. We rest in Him EVERYDAY.  Mark 2:27-28  27 And He said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:  28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. Since He is the Lord of the Sabbath and the Sabbath was made for man and not God. Therefore, if you have Christ in you, the comforter, the Holy Spirit, then would you prevent that Christ which is in you from fulfilling His overall plan? His work? As if you could.  Heb 4:3  For we which have believed do enter into rest, as He said, As I have sworn in My wrath, if they shall enter into My rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.  Here you have it. We which believe, enter into the "sabbath," the body of Christ. Our resting place. Do not let some con artist tell you that you need to repent for working on a certain day. WE do NOT worship a day. We worship Christ everyday!!! We put on the body of Christ not one day but everyday. We put the load on His shoulders. Heb 4:9-10  9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.  10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from His. Simply put, he that put on Christ, rest from his works.        Rev. 21:22  And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.  Matt 11:28-29  28 Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  Matt 12:8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.   Rom 14:6-7 6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.  7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.  1Tim 1:8-9  8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;  9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,   Luke 6:5 And He said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

25 And He said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?

These Pharisees have to admit that David was anointed by God.

26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?

27 And He said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

It was made for these body's to rest. It's no different than the farmer resting the land on the 7th year. It's a time to replenish.

28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

Christ Jesus is our daily Sabbath. We rest in Him EVERYDAY. We are replenished within our spirits EVERYDAY. The religious community kept an eye on Christ and His disciples because of their traditional religion and all the while ignoring what Christ did on the sabbath. They didn't like what they saw them doing. Their laws conflicted with reality when The Sabbath was walking to far for them. The thing that wasn't lawful, was going a greater distance journey than the law provided.
