Luke 6

1 And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands.

Colossians 2 shows us the sabbaths were nailed to the cross at the time of Christ's death. Christ Jesus became our sabbath = rest. If we claim any other rest other than Christ, we are not in Christ. The Pharisees see them picking corn on their sabbath and it's crawling at them.

2 And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days?

These Pharisees are creating laws of their own, not Gods. In their minds, they're the only ones that can be served and eat on the sabbath day.

3 And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungred, and they which were with him;

Christ is letting them know, nothing has change, "Have ye not read?"

4 How he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the shewbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone?

David did much more than what Christ and His disciples are doing. David and his men ate the bread in the tabernacle set aside for the Levitical priests and their families.

5 And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

The Son of man is the Lord of all rest. The sabbath to these Pharisees and most churches today has become self and plate passing day. They really could care less about anything else. True rest is a daily peace. ONLY in Christ can you have that and if you only have Him and Truth in your mind once a week, you will not EVER have true peace or rest. To be a REAL Christian, it MUST be DAILY! You're ready for whatever may come and whenever it may come. No poor me babes in the battle against evil.

6 And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.

7 And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him.

They're entrapping Christ by watching to see if He heals this man on the sabbath. They're trying to turn a blessing of God into a sin.

8 But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.

9 Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?

This "Life" is referring to your eternal soul.

10 And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

11 And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.

Yep! A person was healed and the congregation went nuts because it happen on the sabbath day. Now, they want Christ Jesus blood.

12 And it came to pass in those days, that He went went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

13 And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;

Apostles are sent forth ones.

14 Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,

15 Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,

16 And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.

17 And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;

The news was out and everyone wanted a part of Him in one way or another.

18 And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.

They are cleansed of the evil within them.

19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.

After hearing and seeing The power of Christ, everyone went to Him to be healed.

20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.

Each verse gives blessings, but there is a "woe" = condition to these.

21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.

Hungry? God's Word fills you and Peace of mind gives you joy.  Amos 8:11 Behold the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord.

22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.

Gods Truth convicts them and they can't stand to see you because they can't stand themselves. The sight of you = Christians, reminds them of their sins.

23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

Our reward is waiting for us in heaven. Do the work and see the blessings. God isn't giving away a free government program of socialism in the end.

24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.

This is to those that got rich by ill-gotten gains and not the blessings of God. And for those that were blessed and keep it all to themselves.

25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.

Full of the wrong things. Deceived by your own believes and living for the worldly way instead of Truth and of God.

26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.

People pleasers and word twisters. Telling others what they want to hear instead of what they need to hear. Teaching milk when the need is of meat. Milk is for a beginner of The Word and the meat is for those that have a grasp on what Way a Christian should go and are taught that way to the end. A good pastor will feed on all 3 levels, the third being spiritual.

27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,

A Christian that has the meat, understands this very well. In context, we love our enemies by giving them The Truth without twisting it or watering it down so they can only conform to the worldly way with excuses. ONLY The Truth of God can bring true love   1 Timothy 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.  2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.

29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also.

Use common sense with this. Our Father doesn't want anyone to be abused. What we are to do is when someone hates you enough to hit you because of The Truth, it's no reason to hit them back.

30 Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.

ANYONE in need we should give and if someone robs you, tell them it's the last time they do so. Don't be taken advantage of.

31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.

Treat everyone as you want to be treated.

32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.

It's a great day to have one that followed evil turn to follow Christ and you enjoy their friendship. All souls belong to God and He wishes none perish, yet some will. God is patient!  2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

33 And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.

Evil sticks together and shows favor for evil, but we Christians should treat EVERYONE the same in goodness.

34 And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.

Do you help others expecting something in return? Evil does!

35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

Show compassion but don't compromise Truth. So many turn from The Truth and become complacent in this world today. That's why things are getting bad. We must take a stand!

37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

You had better know how to judge correctly or you will become as them. Our Father will condemn them; we must forgive and move on so they have no more control over us.  John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.   How to judge can be found in  Matthew 7, but you must read the WHOLE CHAPTER.

38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Be fair! Use common sense and do what is right to help others while keeping your standard of living. When giving or selling, be fair to them and you; God will bless it.

39 And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?

This is spiritual blindness. Only a Christian can help those blind to The Truth find The Way, another blind person can't. A biblical illiterate person can't give you the meaning. We are ushers leading people to The Lord.

40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.

As we learn, we teach.

41 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

You can't tell anyone they shouldn't do something if you're doing the same thing. Understand how to judge correctly or it could get you in very bad trouble.  John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.

Only when you're able to see clearly can you help another to The Light.

43 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

What kind of actions fall from you? Only with Gods Word can we measure it.

44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.

Only good actions or works come from Christians. If you're not following Truth, you grow thorns.  James 2:12-18 12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. 13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment. 14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Use common sense, look and listen to people carefully today.

46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Many say they believe in God, but never look or listen to what He says.

47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:

This is why I sometimes use the term "Real Christians" because ONLY those who seek Him and follow Him are Christians, the rest are playing some game.

48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

Only a Christian can and will stand against the lies, deceptions and other evils of this world. The rest will fall!

49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

They will fall hard and everything they have, mind, body and soul, will go down with them. If you're not spiritually ready for whats taking place and about to happen, you had better get ready. The ONLY WAY is to repent and study God's letter to you, The Bible. Don't put it off any-longer!
