John 12

1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.

2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.

Lazarus is just as he was before he died. He's sitting at the table and eating with the rest of them.

3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him,

5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?

Judas Iscariot is ignoring what Mary is doing for Christ, and instead is offended by the cost of the ointment. He doesn't care for the poor, only himself.

6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.

Judas Iscariot was someone that would take a little off the top of any deal someone had made, were he was able to hold their money for that deal. He saw an opportunity to take part of the ointments profits and didn't like to see it "wasted" on Christ.

7 Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.

Christ is letting Judas know, He is about to be buried and she is preparing Him for His burial so leave her alone.

8 For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.

9 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.

The people rushed to see The One that preformed the miracle and the one that was the miracle.

10 But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;

They want Christ dead and everyone with ties to Him.

11 Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.

They see Lazarus alive, walking and talking and because of this, those that once were deceived by the Kenite priesthood are believers of Christ. This isn't going to sit well with the religious leaders egos.

12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

More people showed up because word got out Christ would be there.

13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.

"Hosanna" = ὡσαννά hōsanná, ho-san-nah'; of Hebrew origin (H3467 and H4994); oh save!; hosanna (i.e. hoshia-na), an exclamation of adoration: [to save, be saved, be delivered]  H3467 - yâshaʻ, yaw-shah'; a primitive root; properly, to be open, wide or free, i.e. (by implication) to be safe; causatively, to free or succor:—× at all, avenging, defend, deliver(-er), help, preserve, rescue, be safe, bring (having) salvation, save(-iour), get victory, [to save, be saved, be delivered] and prophesied long before it would come to pass.  Psalm 118:25-26  25 Save now, I beseech thee, O Lord: O Lord, I beseech thee, send now prosperity.  26 Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord: we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord.  Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,

15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.

Christ came as a servant, born in a stable, giving of Himself. Riding on this young donkey with humility in His service to us. He is coming back but on a white horse as The King should.  Zechariah 9:10 And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth.  His kingdom will cover not only the universes we can't see but this earth and all its inhabitants.

16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.

Although Christ disciples didn't understand what was fully happening while Christ was alive, they got it after His resurrection and returning to them. Matthew 28:5-7  5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.  6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.  7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.  So they spread this news to His disciples, with more news to come.  Matthew 28:16-20  16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.  17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.  18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit:  20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

17 The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.

There were many witnesses to this event and it has carried forth even unto today. If you believe, you're a witness.

18 For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.

As word spread of this miracle, everyone wanted to meet Christ and as they did, they became believers in Him. They become followers, giving their time to hearing Christ teach.

19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.

Everything they've tried to do to stop the popularity of Christ has failed.

20 And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:

These Greeks worship many gods, so more than likely many of them are just looking for a party.

21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.

22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.

23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

When that one grain of wheat falls into the ground, it grows into a crop, producing much fruit. When Christ dies, He rises bringing forth much fruit. That fruit produced becomes the souls of many.

25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

If your focus is on the shell of your seed, you need to face it, you're going to lose it, so focus on the seed, your soul, because only in Christ will it flourish today and to come. Christ is life!  John 17:1-3  1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:  2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.  3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

If you follow Christ, you do the work He intended you to do, and by such, you will be blessed in all you do.

27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.

Christ is ready to die for us all. He has known what He had to do and has been ready to do it. He is letting us know He is ready, so what should He say other than His hour has come.

28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

He has glorified it by The birth of Christ and His sacrifice on the cross and He will be glorified again with Christ return on that 7th trump, the trump of God.

29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.

Many witnesses heard God speak those words, even if they question The source, they heard Him.

30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.

31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

We have been given The Way out of the sins of this world. satans ways and deceptions no longer have a hold on those that accept and follow Christ.

32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

If those events that transpired before, after and during the cross hadn't of happened, we wouldn't have acknowledged Him as The Anointed One sent of God. It's only by His death, can we live.

33 This he said, signifying what death he should die.

The crucifixion of Christ was foretold in the manuscripts, Reference to this is in The Book of Isaiah Ch. 53. He has told them what would happen.

34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?

They're wondering if The Christ of the manuscripts lives forever, how is it you're The Christ and you must be crucified and die.

35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

Only in The Word can you have sight. Christ is our Light and without Him, you have no Word. Without Him, you cannot see.  Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.

While they have Him there, they should listen and believe what He says, so they can be of that Truth. While we are here, we should open His letter to us, The Bible, so we to can be of that Truth.  John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

37 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:

We have "Christians" walking around today that have heard of the events that must come to pass before our Lord's return. They know these events, they see them coming to pass, but it's not bringing them to hunger for The Truth more than ever before. They continue in the milk of The Word. The people that witnessed the miracles of God right in their eyes and ears just act like it's a side show. Their faith hasn't grown a bit. They ignored the fact Christ had the power of God, standing right before them.

38 That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?

Again, He is referencing Isaiah 53

39 Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,

40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

Now Christ quotes from Isaiah 6:9-10  9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.  10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

41 These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.

Isaiah was able to write of the glory of God without seeing it.

42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:

Those within the mix of the Sanhedrin were believers in Christ, but out of fear of rejection and being thrown out, they dared not speak their believe. We know Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus were but two of them.

43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

They didn't have the love and strength for The Truth over their fear of the people. Look how many go to a church that has "easter egg hunts" knowing it's evil and say nothing. They love humans over Truth.

44 Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.

They're One.  John 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.

They're One.  John 14:8-9  8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.  9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?

46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

When the sun goes down, do you not turn on a light? Why when the world is so dark, do people not turn to Christ? Why do they not illuminate the darkness that surrounds them? Darkness runs when Light shines. Turn it on and look around you. It runs to the outside of The Light. Christ is our light!

47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

The purpose of the first advent was to give us The Way to life. Do you hear Him? Have you pick up His letter and listened? If not, The second coming will be to judge. Reward or punishment is ours to chose right now.

48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

At the end of the Millennium age will be this last day and we'll see who rejected Christ The Word.

49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

Everything Christ has said wasn't for show, it wasn't to boost of Himself, but everything He said was sent to us directly from God.

50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

The Word is given through The Life of Christ. We can follow That Life and live. Believe and follow His Path. It lit the whole way. He gave it all for us. Why not give yourself to Him.
