Ephesians 5

1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

That's the kind of Love when you're there no matter what.

3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

If you're going to call yourself a Christian, there are ways you should live by and people you shouldn't hang with.

4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

We have The Way = Christ, in which to enter Heaven and the ways of the flesh = satan and the world, which keeps us out of heaven. What's great is it's all up to us freely, which way we want to go.

6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

The world seems to follow more people with "vain words" = empty, no truth or no value in their words. People love a show today, it doesn't matter if any truth is in it. They won't get away with it.

7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

You had better have the ability to judge righteously or you will follow the children of disobedience.

8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

Follow Christ, you follow light. A REAL Christian is just that, They are Christ like. The thing is, people say their Christian, yet have no idea who He is. They don't have time to find out for themselves. No time for The Word.

9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

Our "fruit" = actions, should follow The Light because we are as Christians, the children of light. When we are of The Light, we have His Spirit dwelling with us.

10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

Paul is restating Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

"Reprove" = ἐλέγχω elénchō, el-eng'-kho; of uncertain affinity; to confute, admonish:—convict, convince, tell a fault, rebuke, reprove. Generally with a suggestion of shame of the person convicted, by conviction to bring to the light, to expose. To call to account, show one his fault, demand an explanation, to chasten, to punish. The world conforms, True Christian call them out. We correct wrongs, we don't stand by and make up excuses. We rebuke those that do evil by speaking The Truth.

12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

Evil people lie, cheat and steal their way into things. They make all of it look like truth, honesty and a gift.

13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

Those in The Light, can't be fooled by those living in darkness. This explains a lot if you look around today.

14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

Today's the day to come out of spiritual wickedness, out of your sins. Today's the day to repent and accept Christ into your life. Today is the day to open His letter to you and see The Way made for you, that you can walk in The Light.

15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

"Circumspectly" = ἀκριβῶς akribōs, ak-ree-boce'; adverb from the same as G196; exactly:—circumspectly, diligently, perfect(-ly). Exactly, accurately, diligently. Christians are to walk attentively and persistent in doing what is right in the sight of God. A Real Christian knows they MUST open The Word and Study it before they know what is "perfect" or right in Gods eyes. Common sense is a gift from God, but to truly be wise, you must open His Word and place it in your heart = mind.

16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

"Redeeming" = ἐξαγοράζω exagorázō, ex-ag-or-ad'-zo; from G1537 and G59; to buy up, i.e. ransom; figuratively, to rescue from loss (improve opportunity):—redeem. To make wise and sacred use of every opportunity for doing good. Time is short, very short, Use it wisely. Pick and choose your battles. You need to use your time in feeding Truth to those hungry for it. If you're arguing with evil, someone that is hungry for Truth, could have been fed.

17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

There isn't anything wrong with having [a drink] but there is when you do it in "excess." If you're getting drunk, you're allow something or someone to overtake control of you. satan would love nothing more than for you to allow an opening into your life that he can sneak into. Become addicted to The Word and crave The Truth.

19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

If you're in The Lord, there isn't a void within your heart = mind. Stay in His Word daily and you can't help but sing in The Truth.

20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

In Christ we go to the throne of God. God has given us life and everything that we've been blessed with is of God. In Christ Jesus is the biggest blessing. Eternal Life Thank you Father, in Christ Jesus Yahshua, Amen

21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

In context, we are to reverence God. He is The Only One to revere. Our love is to our Father through His Son. There are many that should literally fear God, but they are not those that follow God. He isn't mad at you. "Fear" = φόβος phóbos, fob'-os; from a primary φέβομαι phébomai (to be put in fear); alarm or fright:—be afraid, + exceedingly, fear, terror. Reverence for one's husband. Vines Expository Dictionary, "a controlling motive of the life, in matters spiritual and moral, not a mere "fear" of His power and righteous retribution, but a wholesome dread of displeasing Him, a "fear" which banishes the terror that shrinks from His presence." If you love God, you want to do things to please Him, do you not?

22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

This is an analogy. It gives us the relationship between Christ and The church = His bride. It's about commitment. Don't look at this as a man or woman thing. If you do, you're going to miss the point. The sex you are has nothing to do with what's being said. If you believe a man is more important than a women, you are not able to understand this analogy. Romans 3:30 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.

23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

Christ is always there for us and we should be there for Him. We need to step up when the time comes. He has done and is doing so much for us. What have you done for Him lately?

24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

We must be fully commitmented if we truly love The Lord. You can't say you're a Christian and follow the world. That's adultery.

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

True love has no bounds. We are to give everything we have in showing our love for God and The Truth. He gave Himself, that we may have life, so give your life in Truth that others may know Him. John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

"Sanctify" = ἁγιάζω hagiázō, hag-ee-ad'-zo; from G40; to make holy, i.e. (ceremonially) purify or consecrate; (mentally) to venerate:—hallow, be holy, sanctify. To purify internally by renewing of the soul. Here is yet another analogy. Our minds are corrupted by the world and The Only Way to clean it up is to wash it with The Word of God. [Everyday] in The Word, renews our minds, our souls.

27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Christ gave Himself that you and I may have The Way to life everlasting and The Way in which to walk while in these flesh body's. Daily repentance and living in Him is how we clean those spots and smooth those wrinkles. His blood gives us The Way to His Holiness helping us become blemish free.

28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

When in love, you do everything you can for the other and you take care of yourself because you want them in your life as long as possible.

29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

Christ gave everything of Himself, that we may be nourished in Truth. We're so cherished by Him, He gave His blood that we may live. It wasn't for Himself He did anything, but for us, the church.

30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

Your body has many parts and those parts work together to get the job done. So is each part of the body of Christ, each member has a job to do. We are one in Him. Continue to do yours and everyone within the body is blessed by it. 1 Cor.12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

You and me, all of us in Christ are joined as one.

32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

If you have followed this study, I'm sure it's no mystery to you. It's been about The Lord's relationship with us, His church. His love for us and ours for Him.

33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

Love!
